I had a great chance to go to Agra yesterday to see the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort. Agra was the capitol of the Mogul Empire, and both the Taj Mahal and the Fort are remnants of the dynasty that once ruled India. The fifth emperor of the Mogul dynasty was Shah Jahan, and he built the Taj Mahal as a memorial to his wife, Mumtaz. She was his third wife, and the only wife he married for love. While there were many mixed reviews about the Taj, from "it's overhyped" to "its a wonder of the world," and I have to say I definitely agree with the latter! The intricacy of the detail in the marble is absolutely astounding. Since many of the pieces of marble are from single slabs, even the smallest error would mean the entire block would have to be redone. The structural engineering of the building is incredible, and the fact that it was built hundreds of years ago makes it even more impressive. The Agra Fort was equally beautiful, and I was so glad to have the chance to witness such amazing monuments!
Photo cred goes to Zubin Tucker for half these photos. If they're good, they're his haha
